[there was a ukulele within reach of the phone when i was fidgeting and (not really knowing what the notes were or the tuning) i started strumming it with a simple suspension (and power chord later on). i was originally thinking kitsch french cafe bass and simple strings, but once i started writing the sheet music (for the first time in a decade or two) I decided that the strings would not be kitsch. programmed the drums, recorded the uke and vox (backing and scratch) and thought my friend Solei's voice would be perfect in with the backing vox. she did 2 passes of that and then quickly threw down a track of improv. i mentioned that i was about to track bass and she decided that she wanted to take a stab at it and it turned out amazing. at that point i drop a score that almost exceeds the instrument's ability on Liz and she blew us away (with barely a moment to go over my scribbled eighth-notes). at that point i threw on a grown up vocal and my attempt to create objective beauty was finished... with just enough kitsch]
